How is an oral cancer screening performed?
During an oral cancer screening, Dr. Crow will conduct a physical and visual examination of the inside of your mouth to look for signs of cancer or symptoms of oral cancer. To ensure thorough detection, Dr. Crow may gently touch and examine areas of your mouth, lips, tongue, neck, and jaw.
When should I get an oral cancer screening?
Early diagnosis of oral cancer greatly improves treatment outcomes. It is recommended to have an oral cancer screening every two years or before any abnormalities appear. If you notice any signs of oral cancer, make sure to contact a nearby oral cancer dentist to schedule a screening. Symptoms of oral cancer may include:
- Mouth or Tongue Sores
- Oral Discoloration
- Loose Teeth
- Pain in the Tongue or Jaw
- Lump on the Lips or Neck
How accurate is an oral cancer screening?
An oral cancer screening allows Dr. Crow or another oral cancer dentist to inspect for any potentially cancerous or abnormal oral developments. If signs of oral cancer are detected, further testing may be recommended, followed by a personalized treatment plan. Regular screenings are crucial for those with a family history of oral cancer or habits that may raise their risk.
